今、仕事の成り行き上、英語のエッセイの評価について考えている。

基本的には総合的評価と分析的評価がある。
総合的評価とはいわゆる全体をざっくりと評価する方法か。
分析的に行う場合は当然観点が必要になる。

観点の中に文法や語彙という項目を入れる場合、これは英文の量と関係する。
長く書けば書くほど上の項目についての間違いは多くなるからだ。
ここの兼ね合いが難しい。
そう考えると語数制限が現実的に思えるが、欧米型のエッセイ評価では基本的に語数制限は設けない。GTECなんかもそうですよね。
余りに短くても内容点は下がるし、長く書いてもただ冗長なだけなら点は上がらない。だから語数制限は不必要ということか。

総合的評価と分析的評価、両方ともテスティング上の信頼性があるという論文をいくつかネット上で見た。
分析的評価は観点別にスコアが出せるため、フィードバックには有効とのこと。
総合的評価はコストが少なく済むため、入試等には向くのだと思う。

総合的に評価する場合TOEFLのCBT時代は以下のようなクライテリアが使われていて、1点から6点までの0.5点刻みだった。
